Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium Grant From Music Empowers To Benefit The Mahalia Jackson Center
The Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium recently announced that a small portion of its two-year grant from the Music Empowers Foundation would be put to use helping the Mahalia Jackson Center in New Orleans. Specifically, funds would be used to purchase a piano for the Center’s emerging music program for young children; many of these children come from some of the poorest and most under-served communities in New Orleans.
The Mahalia Jackson Center had its Grand Opening in May, 2010 and was built on the site of the Mahalia Jackson Elementary School which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The Center provides a wide range of community services including: early childhood education, job training, and a public library.
